Milne Bay PG beefs up its numbers

THE Milne Bay provincial assembly has increased its capacity with four new members, allowing a broader representation of the people’s interests.
The new members were business representative Sir Dennis Young with his wealth of experience, youth representative Solomon Sete and community and local government representative Dickson Daduwe.
Paramount chief Pulayasi Daniel of Trobriand Islands was also appointed to represent the interests of all cultural chiefs in Milne Bay.
Milne Bay Governor John Luke Crittin explained that presidents would no longer be part of the assembly as a result of amendments to the Organic Law on Provincial and Local Level Governments (OLPLLG) in 2006.
They will however, be members of district committees set up to monitor projects using direct funding from the government to the districts.
He said “the assembly today is made up of all the Open Members of Parliamen t and appointed members and the governor”.
Sir Dennis, a former speaker of Parliament, congratulated Mr Crittin on his leadership and efforts in nurturing teamwork among provincial assembly members.
The new members said they were happy to be part of the dynamic team that would work hard to facilitate projects funded in the districts.
Meanwhile, the assembly is yet to appoint a women’s representative.
