Over 400 rural communities to benefit from EU projects

By CLIFFORD FAIPARIK
MORE than 400 rural communities throughout the country will now have an opportunity to be benefited from water supply and sanitation projects worth K71.5 million, funded by the European Union (EU).

EU Ambassador to PNG Aldo Dell’Ariccia said this yesterday at the signing of the second stage of the project with the National Planning Minister Paul Tienstein at the Vulupindi Building in Port Moresby.
Both men said the EU funding would enhance the efforts of the National Government to combat poverty and improve the rural people’s daily livelihood as laid out in the medium term development strategy.
According to them, this stage will go on for six years and is the continuation of the first stage that will be completed by Aug 31.
The first stage was for K32 million.
Meanwhile, Mr Tienstein said this project was accessible to any community and the one who comes first would have access to it.
He said the project would be implemented through a community development approach and could be facilitated through non-government organisations.
French Ambassador Patrick Boursin, Commerce and Industry Minister Gabriel Kapris and acting National Planning Secretary Joe Lelang also attended the event.
