K6.8mil aid for two major projects in Manus

TWO major projects in Manus worth K6.8 million are ready to begin.
They are the relocation of Lorengau jail and the rural electrification project.
The National Government had already received the funds allocated to the projects by AusAID.
The office of Governor Michael Sapau announced that the National Government had allocated K1.8 million for the rural electrification project and the balance K5 million from law and justice sector programme for relocation of the Lorengau jail.
According to the governor’s office, the rural electrification programme will start from Werembu to Tingo, covering five villages and the survey to the project was completed last week.
The office clarified that the K1.8 million is a separate funding and was not from the K10 million grant allocated for district development projects.
Though funds had been allocated for the relocation of Lorengau jail, the land issue among landowners was still to be sorted out delaying the project.
