Pirated CDs ops busted in Madang

By LUANA PANIU
Pirated copies of CDs are rampant in the country and the quick action of police in Madang recovered hundreds of Chin H Meen-produced CDs last Friday.

Pirated copies distributed in the market were a loss to the artiste which he or she had worked very hard to produce.
The man, whose house was raided by police is of Asian descent and married to a local woman.
CHM music manager Richard Francisco said thousands of CDs were confiscated by police at the man’s house in Madang with hundreds of duplicates of music recorded under the CHM label.
Mr Francisco said CHM had been alerted to his activities over the years but were not able to catch him because of his evasiveness.
“We took him by surprise this time and along with the CDs, a machine used to make pirated copies was also found and confiscated,” he said.
Mr Francisco said this was not the first time police and CHM had conducted raids with local authorities.
He said most times pirated CDs were confiscated from vendors on the streets.
