Rugby executives resign en masse

By SAMPSON BONAI
EXECUTIVES from Morobe Rugby Union have resigned en mass from their posts citing work commitments as their reasons.

Former president Darren Bishop announced his resignation in a newspaper advertisement yesterday.
The former executives who have tendered their resignations from office are Bishop, Anthony Kerua (vice president), Mako Brian (secretary) and Moses Limi (treasurer).
“We are no longer in office and take no responsibility for any incidents involving players or officials that may occur in games organised by other parties,” Bishop said.
“All the players insured last year will still be covered under their insurance until June 15 this year and those parties intending to organise games should take possession of the files of the insured players.”
“You maybe liable for damages that may occur to any uninsured players or officials.”
Bishop said he had to take out an advertisement to publish their resignation because there were inadequate members present at the annual general meeting to accept their resignation and no persons were nominated prior to the annual general meeting to become office bearers.
He said all the executive positions within Morobe Rugby Football Union (MRFU) were still vacant and urged all the parties affiliated to MRFU to contact him for a copy of the 2007 report.
On the international rugby scene, AAP reported last night from Sydney that the New Zealand Maori will join Australia A, Fiji, Japan, Samoa and Tonga in the Pacific Nations rugby tournament starting in June.
The Maori replace two time champions the Junior All Blacks as the New Zealand representatives.
The tournament kicks off with Fiji hosting Samoa in Lautoka and New Zealand Maori debuting against Tonga in Albany on June 7.
The following day 2007 runners-up Australia Aare hosted by Japan in Fukuoka.
The tournament features 15 matches played in six countries over five weeks.
