Five-year deal for
Defence RL Club
By HENRYMORABANG A landowner company in Kutubu, Southern Highlands province, Kawaso Limited has committed to sponsor Defence Rugby Football League club for the next five years. Kawaso Ltd chairman Kossy Sosoro announced this during the Defence ceremony to celebrate their Super Nines victory over the weekend. Defence outmuscled Hawks winning 18-12. Kossy, a former warrant officer for 28 years, and now a leading figure in Kawaso company said he was very happy with the win over the weekend. He said as a former soldier, he decided to use his company to support Defence rugby league club and also Hawks rugby league club in Mendi, Southern Highlands. Mr Sosoro said he wants total commitment from Defence rugby league players if they want him to honor his commitment. He said last year, he sponsor the club in the middle of the year but it was too late for the club to fight on to win the remaining games. With the successful Super Nines’ ictory, Sosoro said he is commitment to see Defence through to win the Port Moresby Rugby League season. Coach Billy Soeve
thanked Mr Sosoro and the his Board of Directors of having confidence in supporting Defence Rugby League club. Soeve said as former player, he took upon himself to coach the club. He was overwhelmed when four SP Cup players from various teams join Defence such as Andrew Andiki (Brian Bell Bulldogs), Jarrod Hoada, Geno Ralani (Wari Vele Raiders) and
Samuel Nap (Mabey & Johnson Muruks). Coach said with the inclusion of this players, he strongly believed that captain
Steven Johns will have enough power to campaign throughout the PRLseason. Captain Johns also thanked the quartret for join Defence club. He said though Defence is an government institution team, the players are mainly from settlements around Murray Barracks and civilians with the department. Skipper also called on Defence personnal to become stakeholders as this is an institution teams and not for civilians. “I would love to see army officers from rank and file to join the club to make it a real Defence Force Rugby Football League team.
