HILLARY, dickory, dock, some more
wins on the clock ... it seems there’s still a few tigers in the Clinton
campaign tank. You’ve got to hand it to the feisty New York senator –
she’s no quitter. *** WILL visiting Australian PM Kevin Rudd broach the thorny topic of Fiji with his PNG counterpart? There’s a considerable gulf between the views held by the two countries over the troubled island state; perhaps Mr Rudd may favour discretion over valour as he pursues a more comfortable relationship with our Government. *** WE’VE suggested that readers might like to drop us an e-mail and express their views over the media’s use of graphic pictures in the newspapers and on television. Yesterday’s front page in The National may prompt further responses — we look forward to hearing from you at deenesenolis@hotmail.com. *** RUMOUR has it that some under-performing persons within the Health department were hoping against hope that the Court of Disputed Returns decision in the Huon Gulf Open case would see the departure of Mr Sasa Zibe from the portfolio and the House. *** THE general public may therefore, be relieved to know that Mr Zibe, who has shown considerable commitment, innovation and energy in his approach to his ministry, will remain responsible for Health. Sad, though, that the decision should have led to an angry clash between supporters of Mr Zibe and petitioner Tukape Masani. *** IN yesterday’s editorial, The National noted that the Housing Corporation board had recommended the dismissal of MD Paul Asakusa to the NEC. It’s now confirmed that the first submission for Mr Asakusa’s termination was submitted by the NHC chairman Richard Maru to Minister Kumbakor on Nov 28 last year. *** MORE than three months seems a long time to wait for a cabinet decision on such a vital matter; in the interim, planning and progress at the NHC has virtually ground to a halt, staff morale is non-existent and members of the PNG public are, as usual, the victims. This issue has contributed significantly to community cynicism towards political wheeling and dealing in public service positions, despite repeated Government promises to the contrary. Cheers! *** - Dee Nesenolis |
