WE welcome the Australian Prime
Minister Kevin Rudd on his first visit to PNG. We hope that his meetings
with his PNG counterpart may lead to the restoration of the good
relationship that once existed between the two nations. *** GOOD morning. A call yesterday from a regular reader expressed concern at one of our stories; he wanted more details on an item that supposedly claimed that the National Fisheries Authority was now canning the legendary bats of Madang for export. Fearing assault and bat-tery, we hastened to investigate. *** AFTER a thorough thumbing of the pages, we found both great relief and something of an explanation in the headline: “NFA bats for quality tuna export.” We can now assure readers that the Fisheries Authority isn’t slipping the odd deep frozen bat into its ultra fresh export marine products. The word “bat” was used purely in its cricketing sense. We trust our correspondent is re-assured; it’s all enough to bowl a maiden over. *** FM100 is once again making an impact in Madang, according to that town’s resident scribbler Spy. The broadcaster is again on site at the Divine Word campus to cover the university’s graduation ceremonies this Sunday. In the lead-up to that event, radio supremo Roger Hau’ofa is presenting a great array of interesting guest interviews. *** THE Ancient Scribbler notes that two DWU communication arts graduates are part of the FM100 entourage – Renagi Taukurai, who co-hosts weekday afternoons with interesting guests and interviewing and Glenda Popot, who has fast established a name for incisive on-air news reporting. *** THE two women will be among several hundred graduates on Sunday, when they’ll receive their Bachelor of Arts degrees, a happy outcome after four years of acquiring journalism skills for our print media, television and broadcasting. It’s great to see PNG students reaching for the top in a most competitive market. *** DID you notice the current results of our question asking readers whether they felt corruption today was greater than under the government of Sir Mekere Morauta? A hefty 90 percent voted yes. We wish you a top weekend and look forward to your company on Monday. Cheers! *** - Dee Nesenolis |
