| Forum to view porn saga in ENB | |
|
By ELIZABETH VUVU A FORUM on the local production of pornography was held yesterday in East New Britain to gauge the views of resource personnel in addressing the issue in the province. The forum was spearheaded by the independent investigating team directed by Rabaul MP and Minister for Justice and Attorney-General Dr Allan Marat. It was held at the fire station conference centre in Kokopo to gather people’s view and make recommendations that may help in prosecuting the culprits. Facilitator Joseph ToBung said before the team handed in their final report on their independent investigation that they wanted to get views covering cultural, legal, moral and social aspects. He said those implicated in the report once interviewed would be prosecuted by the police before the courts but the younger ones involved, like school children, would need spiritual counselling and rehabilitation. “This may seem like an investigation but it is a research as to why people are being lured into such immoral acts,” he said. “The team had come across and collected so many pornographic material including movie CDs, slides and books featuring many local women. “We are viewing it with tears as it is no longer foreigners but our own sisters and relatives,” he said. Rev Eron Diop described the battle against pornography in ENB as fighting a war between flesh and spirit and that humanity was affected and needed the entire support of the people. Police commander Insp Samuel Niba said ENB was a role model province and to keep this reputation “ all we need is to stand up and fight this evil” and revisit legislation and make people aware of the problem. |
