Provincial government talks with oil palm groups successful

THE West New Britain provincial government’s negotiations with the Hoskins Oil Palm Grower Association (HOGPA) and the New Britain Palm Oil Limited (NBPOL) to settle their ongoing dispute claims to be successful.
Provincial administrator Joshua Giru told the growers association there were proper venues to settle the problem than vandalising properties.
Mr Giru said for the past few weeks, the HOPGA were not happy with the NBPOL for not reviewing the price formula for Fresh Fruit Bunch (FFB).
The association had also petitioned the Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Sasa Zibe last September to immediately review the FFB price. The last FFB price review was done in 2001.
Apart from FFB pricing, the association also recommended that the association chairman Willie Nilmo to be one of the members in the Oil Palm Industry Co-operation Board.
Mr Giru said he would take the matter up with Governor Clement Nakmai to discuss with Mr Zibe to speed up the process.
He said the names for the new members of the board had been submitted to the department to be screened by the Public Service Commission before the minister submits it to the National Executive Council for approval.
