Gogodala Canoe Festival gets K15,000 sponsorship

By DAVID KAPI
THE National Cultural Commission (NCC) and the Rimbunan Hijau (PNG) Group presented cheques worth K5,000 and K10,000 respectively to sponsor the hosting of this years Gogodala Canoe Festival.
Minister for State assisting the Prime Minister and patron of the Gogodala Festival Roy Biama received the cheques on behalf of the festival organising committee in a small ceremony at the National Cultural Commission boardroom yesterday.
The presentation was witnessed by Middle Fly district administrator Moses Ase.
RH public relations officer Mathew Werigi said as a major investor in the North Fly district of Western province and also as a partner in nation building, the company had decided to support the festival.
“Such event will help tourism development, and RH is committed to assisting in playing its social responsibility by giving back to the community,” Mr Werigi said.
Mr Biama thanked both RH (PNG) Group and NCC for their support, adding that the money would go a long way in helping stage the festival successfully.
“Canoe has always played a big part in the cultures of Western province, thus this festival will mark the celebration of that significance,” he said.
“The festival has become an annual event, and I am very happy that you have made a big contribution towards it.”
The Gogodala Canoe Festival was formerly hosted under the Balimo District Agriculture and Cultural Show five years ago.
However, since its inception, the event has developed to an annual event with the continual support from NCC and RH (PNG) Group donating same amount of money respectively last year.
The festival will be held from April 25-27 in Balimo.
