Mt Hagen residents left high and dry

SUPPLY of water to residents of Mt Hagen city in Western Highlands has been cut off.
Residents have been without water for two days now after heavy rain on Tuesday night caused two of the three pumps at the catchment area near the Holy Trinity Teachers College to stop working.
Residents who did not have tanks had to resort to fetching water from Wara Kum and Wara Kala nearby.
Government offices, businesses and schools were forced to operate only half day.
A PNG Waterboard employee said they were waiting for parts from Lae to fix the two pumps.
He said one pump was not enough to get enough water into the city.
It is understood the lack of servicing of the pumps caused them to break down.
