Woman ordered to pay K1,000 fine for having porno tapes

A TWENTY-eight- year-old Milne Bay woman, who pleaded guilty to charges of having pornographic tapes and illicit drug, has been ordered to pay a K1,000 fine and her jail sentences have been suspended.
On Monday, the Boroko District Court decided that Marilyn Masani, from Kwebwaga village in the Trobriand Islands, pay the fine or spend six months in jail with hard labour.
This was in relation to the charges of having in her possession the 70 digital pornographic tapes, under Section 25A (1) of the Summary Offence Act.
And for the drug charge under Section 3(1) (d) of the Dangerous Drug Act, Masani had her eight months jail term suspended and instead she has been placed on 12 months good behaviour bond.
Masani changed her not guilty plea to a guilty plea on Feb 8, after successfully striking a deal with police that if she pleaded guilty, they would drop the ‘harbouring illegal immigrant charge against her involving her male partner John Cougianni whose case is also before the same court later this month.
