Trio arrested and charged with rape
By PETER MIVA
THREE suspects have been arrested and
charged with gang raping a woman at the old Lae airport last weekend.
Metropolitan commander Chief Supt Simon Kauba said yesterday that six
suspects were apprehended at the old airport area on Tuesday.
Three of them have been identified, and had confessed to the alleged
rape, and charged.
Mr Kauba said the victim was in the company of her boyfriend and another
female companion and were walking along the Markham Road past the Air
Niugini office into town after watching Pati Potts Doi perform at the
Liquid Inn.
He said during that time, they were attacked by seven men armed with
knives.
The two women were dragged into nearby bushes where one managed to
escape while the other was raped.
Mr Kauba identified the three suspects as Bobby John, 17, of Lagemad;
Ronald Pesh, 17, of Imi; and Larson Mumu, 26, of Kaiap, all from Wabag,
Enga province.
Meanwhile, a man was arrested and charged with misappropriating
K12,065.50 belonging to another man in Lae on Tuesday.
Mr Kauba said the suspect, identified as Tom Matai from Hanjua, Menyamya
district in Morobe, negotiated with the complainant and took 86 bags of
coffee in 2005 which he promised to pay the owner in due course.
However, he failed.
The suspect instead bought a vehicle.
A woman was also arrested and charged with conspiring with two other
women for stripping another woman after suspecting her of having an
affair with the suspect’s husband.
