Work with Powi, Abal tells officers

By HARLYNE JOKU
INTER-Government Relations Minister Sam Abal is appealing to public servants in the Southern Highlands province to work under provincial administrator William Powi.
Mr Abal said yesterday the Government respected the court decision in reinstating the Governor as the head of the province, however, the provincial administrator was appointed by the NEC and would have to remain until further advice.
Mr Abal made the comments in reaction to a decision by the provincial executive council to appoint Alfred Abe as the new administrator.
Mr Abal said Mr Powi would remain until the NEC decided further.
He urged the public servants to co-operate and work under Mr Powi.
Mr Abal further urged Southern Highlands Governor Hami Yawari not to tarnish his name by claiming that a sum of money was spent in Southern Highlands during the SoE.
Mr Abal said K27 million was allocated for the SoE and only the controller could be able to account for the expenditure.
Mr Abal said Mr Yawari was an elected leader and must follow due processes regarding the appointment of the administrator and budget.
He also stressed that the elections were due in two months and the Government feared a build-up of guns in the province.
Mr Abal said it was up to the leader to control his province and ensure a safe or failed election.
