Pirates retain rugby crown

REIGNING champions 6B Pirates are set for this season and their win over arch rivals Hurricanes 27-17 last Saturday in Madang rugby union ten aside competition consolidates their intentions when the 15s season proper kicks off.
And new recruit Amos Ovasuru' inclusion beefed up the side's scurm with old hands Elizah Warpilak and Anderson Yama in ensuring their speedy backs were utilized.
The return of centre McKenzie Moka from injury was havoc to his opponents when in possession of the ball as he contributed a try to his team's victory.
Moka had been off the scene last season and his presence with the champions signals that they are in for another top finish.
Pirates other try scorers were Venon Kolant and Justin Nohou scoring a double and a conversion to Joe Manalau.
Hurricanes had skipper Ian Gore, Taksy Ba'ara and Martin Avi trying hard all day.
In the other matches Kalibobo Gunners had too much power over a luckless Mac49 Raiders with a big 28-7 win while Esi Cruzers nailed their neighbours from PNG Maritime 26-10.
Meanwhile, the six clubs are remaindered that deadline for club registration of K100 and K10 player registration is due on March 31.
All medical clearance are also due on the same date.

Aroma coast to host netball tournament

AROMA COAST Netball Association will be hosting its netball tournament during the Easter weekend.
The tournament is sponsored by the Governor for NCD Wari Vele with K10,000 sponsorship package while he also committed another K20,000 Aroma Rugby Football League.
The K20,000 was towards the administration of the League and also help stage trials against its franchise team for the SP Cup competition Wari Vele Raiders. The trials is expected to be stage at the end of the month.
The tournament will attract teams from 19 villages starting from Paramana Point, Paramana, Wapagai, Pelagai, Kinikalana, Maopa-Kwalu Vouvou, Kapiupma and Aroina, Maopa Kwalu Ragarage, Gaivakala, Egals Auma, Waro, Iruone, Kwape upa, Kelekapana, Wairavanua, Vuru and Keagolo to participate.

Natto impressed with offer

NATIONAL Soccer League chairman John Kapi Natto said yesterday that he was very happy to see former rugby league player Mathew Minape wanting to give something back to the sport by putting up a franchise teams in SP Cup ñ and also in NSL competition.
Natto said he had not received any formal written expression of interest from Minape but would pursue the matter with him to support a franchise soccer team for Lae.
