Latest port of call for new
volleyball side
New team PNG Ports will be grilled this weekend when they take on
talented Viriolo side in the men's preseason encounter in NCD
Volleyball.
PNG Ports recruited players from U-Mi Yet and Taikone clubs are
considered to be one of the best sides that will be taking the NCD
Volleyball by storm this season. They have players like Veleke
Kila, Moha Opa Mea, Richard Kila and former national player Billy
Koite.
The last season division 1 champion are set for promotion this
year to premier grade with their performances of late and
recruited well from the Puka Temu Cup over the Christmas period.
They will be throwing everything to the harbour gate-keepers and
the match is expected to be a thriller.
BBK are another new team that is making their presence felt upon
their maiden appearance last weekend with a close loss to one of
NCD best clubs Ulamagi.
BBK are the current gay volleyball world champions in B5 grade in
World International gay volleyball competition that was held last
year in Chicago, USA, where they won gold.
They have registered their team in NCD Volleyball to prepare
themselves to defend their title next year in Germany.
The world champions with Captain Marissa Tarzan in control will
rely heavily on power hitters Shakira, Morea, Kalden, Iru and
Willie to set the pace in defence and attack for a great showdown.
They have warned their male opponents to watch out in race for the
season title this year.
In the other women's game, BBK women with Kalia Alu, Pate Gima,
Veiva Vela and Pala Alu should lay the foundation for their young
recruits for a match up against neighbours Kijo. Vali Iamo, Vavine
Rupa and Sylvie Ikufu are expected to lead for Kijo and should
give a good account of themselves.
Meanwhile, the Secertary Landon Taureka has called on all clubs to
pay their K50 pre-season fee before getting the court. Match
officials will be instructed to collect original bank deposit
slips to allow participation. For those that did not pay up should
