Moresby women softball names train-on
squad
THE Port Moresby women's softball association has named its
train-on squad for the coming national championships in Kavieng, New
Ireland province, next month.
The championships will be held on April 5-9.
The side has recalled services of bulk of its players from last year's
championships in Madang in the hope of restoring some lost pride.
Port Moresby has played second fiddle to Lae over the past years and
selectors have vowed to retain bulk of the players.
But the biggest slap on the individual players is the levy fee of K1,000
that is set for each player to raise during the next four weeks.
Selectors have also named their nine players already named in the
national train-on squad for the Pacific Games in Samoa in August.
They include hurler Margaret Josephs, Wendy Katusele, Antonia Tatai,
Terry Akorare, Mectil Raymond, Selina Karai, Veronica Aisi, Jenny Pilak
and Lisa Polum.
The rest of the team Joyce Inguba, Wendy Sogai (Airways Bears), Pauline
Warkit, Kolish Banam, Mathilda Moe, Adi Tamti (Wantoks),Grace Wanma,
Tessie Komek, Cinta Wanma, Pala Manet (Gazelle), Hazel Eremas, Sophie
Malaibe (Admiralty), Kathleen Tarura (Dolphins), Isobel Peni-Paisat, (Stingerz),
Genevieve Katape Malangan).
The team will be trimmed down to 17 players prior to departure on April
4.
Meanwhile applications are now open for the coach and team manager
positions and should be handed to president Miriam Xjenik or public
relations officer Claire Wut at the Life gymnasium located at the
Holiday inn or email life@nla.com.pg
There will also be a fund raising dance for the side at the Soul Wara
club on March 17 and the public is urged to attend and help for a good
course.
