| PNG has a lot to offer to the world today | |
|
I WAS overwhelmed with a sense of
pride over your patriotic statement regarding the relationship between
PNG and Australia. We have a lot to offer to the world, including Australia. Gone are the days of the fuzzy wuzzy angels who helped fight a war that was not ours. Today, our intellects are equal to any professional in the world. We have doctors, pilots, accountants, judges, engineers. The list goes on. Our grandparents in the village are far better than some of the best brains in the world. We respected our land, our rivers, our forests and only took what we wanted. The so-called “first world” countries went on a rampage and destroyed their forest, mined their land, polluted their sea only to come and tell us what we already knew – preserving today’s world for tomorrow. PNG indeed has a lot to offer and Australia should now open its door to accept our professionals. We must be treated as equals. Our politicians should stop talking about temporary fruit-pickers and offer new hopes for our children to study in Australia or elsewhere. We are second to none. Your editorial on March 7 was a clear reminder to an era gone by. Justice P Mogish, Port Moresby |
