| Baiyer Gorge calling Digicel, B Mobile | |
|
Baiyer River valley is one of those
unique valleys situated in the northern end of Western Highlands
province. It borders WHP with Enga, Simbu, Madang and East Sepik
provinces. Baiyer River waters the valley and is one of the tributaries of the mighty Sepik River. Norm Draper, the early Baptist missionary to Baiyer, wrote that “the valley is magnificent, with abundant blessing and probably vastly populated so we must settle there to spread the gospel”. Rev Draper was right about the valley being populous because when you descend the Baiyer Gorge, you will be greeted by the laughter of the kind and generous inhabitants. There are about 50,000 people living in that valley and the neighbouring hillsides. Half the population is illiterate but the other is in tune with the modern era. Our estimated 20,000 mobile phones are usually switched off when we descend the Baiyer Gorge to our various homes. Digicel and B Mobile, think about it. There are several places where you could put up your towers – Rugli national prayer centre, Kwinkya Baptist Bible College, Patrol Post & 4. and Tinsley district hospital. We are tired of coming to town just to receive “voicemails” and “out of date text messages”. Digicel and B Mobile, we want to receive service 24/7 and we don’t want to be deaf to the world at Baiyer Gorge. kunyanga@pom, Baiyer River |
