‘Security for Rudd exceptional’
POLICE security coverage of Australian prime minister Kevin Rudd’s two and half day visit in the country, especially in the city, has been commended for being exceptional.
Head of police security deployment commander Awan Sete said yesterday the 400 police deployed did their task very well according to schedule of the arrival and departure of Mr Rudd.
He said the operation itself went very well without any major hiccup and he “was very happy about that”.
He said in Goroko, police stepped up security coverage and performed well according to task during Mr Rudd’s visit there.
Mr Sete also thanked the various protest groups who wanted to flag down Mr Rudd with their protests – Koiari/Kokoda land owners; Papuan groups; NGO groups on the labour issue – for agreeing not to stage big protests pursuant to his direction.
He said he had made his stance clearly not to tolerate any such protests and had directed them to take up other avenues to vent their claims.
He also thanked the policepersonnel deployed for security for a job well done and said the members of the protection officers were impressed with the security provided.
“Overall it went down well…and I also thank general public for their behavior during the visit,” he said.
