Wau ready to host Momase Cup

WAU has finalised all its preparations towards the hosting of the PNGFA sanctioned Momase Regional Soccer championships on March 19-20.

Local organising committee chairman Bruno Pambel said yesterday that they have finalised all the arrangements including accommodation, transportation, security and the venues for the games.
“The overall organisation of the games had been completed and we are expecting the total number of teams to confirm their interest to participate in the coming championships by contacting us,” Pambel said.
“Wau had already made its selection of two teams and we expect teams to come from LFA, Lahi. Madang, Wewak, Vanimo, Bogia, Bulolo, Finschhafen, Boana, and Markham,” he said.
The Momase Cup is staged annually for northern region provinces by the PNGFA.
Last year it was held in Madang and little known Boana in the Nawae district of Morobe Province, beat all odds.
City competition, Lae Football Association has announced two strong teams to take part in the championships and have also announced two experienced coaches to take charge of the teams.
LFA general secretary Eric Niwo said they have appointed Arnold Yanum as the men’s coach and Rupert Romney as the women’s coach assisted by John Bal..
“We are confident of doing well at the championship and to bring the title back to LFA as the champions of Momase and look forward to challenge other centres taking part in the game,” Niwo said.
Lahi soccer president John Ronnie also confirmed his association’s attendance and said they are also looking forward to take part in the regional championships in Wau.
