| NGO carries out TB awareness | |
|
By PETER PUSAL TUBERCULOSIS is a major health issue in the community and this was the message that World Vision through its awareness team explained to members of the Kone Sharks Rugby Union club yesterday at Sir Hubert Murray Stadium in Port Moresby. Kone Sharks RFUC thru its management invited World Vision representatives to visit the club during training to pass the message of TB and its effect on individuals and the community. The club has taken the initiative to have guest speakers visit the club at regular intervals for motivational talks as well as speeches on various issues affecting their community. Also present to support the club and its off field community programmes were representatives of major sponsor Trukai Rice who have indicated their continued sponsorship for the club over the next two years. Speaking on behalf of WV, the National TB project coordinator Temitope Adepoyibi said that the disease was one of the major killers in PNG and that it was everyone’s responsibility to minimise their risk of developing the disease by practicing good hygiene and being considerate of others. World Vision is currently carrying out TB awareness programs in schools throughout NCD with World TB Day to be recognised on March 24. |
