Barrick backing Ipatas league
CANADIAN miner Barrick Gold through its subsidiary Porgera Joint Venture has continued its backing of sport in Enga province with a K10,000 contribution to this year’s Coca-Cola Ipatas Cup.
PJV now joins the Ipatas Cup as minor sponsors of the rugby league competition which will kick off on March 21 and run for three weeks in the province with matches in Wabag and Porgera.
In a brief presentation at Barrick PNG head office in Port Moresby yesterday Enga Governor Peter Ipatas accepted a cheque from Barrick PNG corporate and legal affairs general manager Anthony Smare representing the mine’s ongoing commitment to the Porgera community and Enga province.
Smare reiterated Barrick’s commitment to ensuring a good relationship with the Porgera community and as part of its community benefit program it was only fitting to assist the provincial government through sponsoring sporting events.
“Barrick’s Porgera Joint Venture is pleased to sponsor the Ipatas Cup with a K10,000 donation. At Barrick, we are committed to making a positive difference in the communities in which we live and work.
“We believe the sport makes a tremendous contribution to society, and we are very happy to be able to support the Ipatas Cup competition and having the youth of Enga province and the rest of the Highlands positively engaged in sport, in particular this competition,” he said.
