A Grade cricket heads into semi-finals clashes |
|
|
By PETER PUSAL FINALLY the business end of the Port Moresby A Grade Cricket competition has arrived. After a season of mixed results the semi-finalists have emerged from the country’s premier cricket competition with the semi-finals this weekend. BNG Poreporena, probably the competition’s most consistent performer, will be aiming to take advantage of Raukele’s unpredictable form at the back end of the season when the two teams face off at Amini Park on Sunday. For Raukele their season has been inconsistent after a bright start which had pundits pinning the minor premiership tag on the Hula team. The wheels fell off for Raukele half way thru the season with several disastrous losses to teams that they had easily bested earlier in the season. Raukele’s experienced Aukamu Noka must stand tall and lead with the bat with the team recording a string of poor team batting performances of late. For Poreporena their account has been more pleasing having maintained a top three placing thru out the course of the season proper. And having the likes of East Asia Pacific star batsman John Ovia fit and in good touch the form guide looks to be in their favour. The other semi-final on Sunday at Colts Oval has Hanuada flagship SNS United taking on the dangerous KCC. United have their work cut out for them in trying to contain a KCC team who will be seething after last weeks final round loss to Raukele. The Koita team thrives on tense situations and the pressure-cooker atmosphere of a sudden death play-off is made to order. KCC’s William Harry and Greg Baeau hold the key with their knack for pulling off plays-of-the-day they will be primed for this match. Once again United’s old hands will need to show the way with much expected of captain Rarua Dikana and Kohu Dai with the bat and also leadership in the field. |
