| K10m for Kerevat NHS | |
|
By VERONICA MANUK THE Department of National Planning and Rural Development is releasing K1 million to Kerevat National High School for the renovation and maintenance work as promised by the minister. According to school principal Lillian Ahai, Minister Paul Tiensten and his delegation visited the school and were shocked over the deteriorating state of the school. This prompted him to commit K10 million for the school’s renovation and maintenance work, Ms Ahai said. Mr Tiensten said K5 million would come from his office and the other K5 million would be from the Education Department. Ms Ahai said she was happy to receive a call last Wednesday from the National Planning and Rural Development saying the office is in the process of releasing K1 million to begin the work. To keep up with the minister’s call to get rid of the cult activities and for tough disciplinary measure to be taken before funds are provided, she said the school has already begun the work with the help of new the governing council. Ms Ahai said last week the school held a denunciation ceremony where 330 students filled in a form to make a pledge not to take up any generation names or practice cult activity. Preparation is in full swing for a reconciliation ceremony to be held in the school where a bonfire would be set. She said with the new governing council in place as there was none last year, disciplinary measures would be tough. She said as the new principal, she would make sure that things would be kept in place to maintain high standards. |
