Abortion

Up in the heavens
A wonderful haven of children
A playground it may seem
All enjoying a carefree life

I never finished my game of marbles
Because you intruded
What was I to do
You chose me, didn’t you

So please, p-l-e-a-s-e don’t hurt me
I never asked to come
An innocent child I am
Just don’t hurt me, because
You wanted me in the first place

My Mountain Warowari

When I look to the west from Mt Paiyam
slowly tears fall down my cheeks
My mountain is gone
A huge crater is all I could see
it gets wider and deeper daily

Rest is no longer a virtue to man
Angry machines eat into you day and night
Your innards are laid bare and removed
by man in search of what they call “fortune”
It is sad to see my Mt Warowari dying

I thought this won’t happen to you
I thought it would only be a myth
But a generation is only taken
for my forefathers’ prophesies about you
to come to fruition
“Birds” from all corners of the land
roost and feast on you
How flawless were the wise men’s words

In place of the cool blanket of mists and clouds
which once hid your beautiful face are
Only puffs of thick white steam, and black smoke and dust
Which rise forever into the heavens

No more are the colourful birds and possums
No more are the food you produced
No more are the sparkling streams which gurgled
down your sides
The lifeline you once supported is all history
It’s all nearly gone

The sun is about to set beyond your brother Mt Pangalin
where only wild taros grow
You did not heed the warnings from him
Arrogance has led you to your own destruction
The clock ticks down, soon the iron gates will snap
Destiny is already set for my once beautiful mountain
Why has this to be the fate of
My Mountain Warowari

The rain

Creeping in like an old man
Slowly the cloud turned from white to grey
Far and wide
Suddenly flash
Mother lightning strikes
A warning sign
Like a gun fire
Everyone ran for cover
Then boom
Father thunder roars
Finally it came tap, tap, tap
Droplets at first
Then like cats and dogs it poured
On rooftops
On my umberella
On the arid land
On the wilting plant
Ohh so refreshing
Like a marathon race
It raced past my house
Up the roads and down the streets
Splash, splash, splash
Children playing in puddles
With arms outstretched
It seems to go anywhere...everywhere
