| Drunk MP is a disgrace | |
|
ON Feb 11, The National ran a story
under the headline, “Drunken MP, minor caught in the act”. I find it inappropriate that the MP was not named. He should not be protected as he has failed to live up to the conduct required of a leader. Secondly, he has committed a crime by engaging in an inappropriate act as reported. I also believe that there may be more to this story than what was reported. The policeman, who acted as a guard for the MP, should also have been identified. He failed to uphold the law as required in his statement of duty. Such behaviour is creating problems in families these days and anyone involved should be identified regardless of their standing in the community. By identifying them, they will be shamed and their unworthiness will thus be revealed to all. Haela Haroapa, Port Moresby Editor’s note: We share your concern over improper conducted by our elected leaders. However, we must also understand that everyone is innocent until proven guilty by our legal system and we cannot identify a person suspected of an offence until he/she has been formally charged. |
