ENGA province’s Toyota Mioks board
says the SP Cup franchise have recruited some Port Moresby-based players
from Brain Bell Bulldogs and Wari Vele Raiders, and LBC Lae Bombers. Mioks board chief executive officer Eddie Muller said last week that his board had already signed Bombers linchpin five-eighth Andrew Sam and colleague PNG Kumuls Eki Ene. The trio will join Benjamin John, Luke Kolalio, Kevin Frank and Balimo star Suckling Danage who are currently camping in Port Moresby. The National could not confirm independently from these players whether they have switched to the Mioks camp. “We will also look for players in other centres as most of our players who took part last year were dropped due to disciplinary problems,” Muller said. “It is a semi-professional football and now we want to recruit the best players, who are disciplined, to help restore the lost pride of Enga.” He said they will also check on Mount Hagen Besta Eagles players who are willing to join the Mioks. In Lae, Mabey & Johnson Muruks have started their training at Bugandi Secondary School oval. Coach Stanley Hondina said his players have started three weeks of intensive training and were progressing well. Hondina said the training team was named with a blend with of young and senior players. “We have Rodney Pora and Opisa Pomba from Agmark Gurias and Jacy Kuman (Raiders) who are in the camp. I am happy to have couple of talented players in the team and am hoping for a successful year,” he said, adding that several players had been sacked for disciplinary reasons. Meanwhile, Kumuls and Mioks captain Leo Kondai has raised his hands for Lae Bombers. Kondai, who played with Bombers in 2003 -04, is expected to beef up the forward pack with other two former Mioks players if selectors give the nod. |
