Grand final in cricket in place
SNS United and BNG Poreporena will contest the grand final of Port Moresby’s A Grade cricket competition next weekend after both Hanuabada teams won their semi- finals yesterday in differing circumstances.
United were probably just as surprised as their fans when they snared a relatively easy five wicket win over the normally tenacious KCC in what was perhaps a bizarre performance from the Koita men.
That semi-final played yesterday on Colts Oval ended early after United lost five wickets reeling in KCC’s shock score of 45.
At neighbouring Amini, Park BNG Poreporena played disciplined, no-frills cricket to end Raukele’s bumpy ride into the play-offs with a 48-run victory.
Ovia brothers John and Seia both played valuable roles in helping their team clinch a grand final berth against fellow Hanuabada team SNS United.
Poreporena batsmen played a safety first innings and managed 187 all out by the 48th over. Vani Vagi Morea top scored with 43 runs and along with Kapena Arua (30) added 83 runs for the second wicket.
Seia Ovia’s patient knock of 30 runs coming off 62 balls typifying Poreporena’s dogged approach.
Raukele bowlers can hold their heads high for their efforts especially their spinners Robert Piki 4 for 44 and Chris Alu 2-35.
