THE Port Moresby Road Runners
gathered at Ela Beach Tower on Saturday under driving rain.
Kesa Nathan ran well to claim victory in the 2.4km sprint over junior
Michael Moroi in a respectable time of 8 minutes 33 seconds. Some 35
pikininis joined in for the exercise. Noko Negosa crossed the finish
line first as expected in the 3.8km race which included climbing halfway
up Paga Hill. His winning time of 15:10 was comfortably ahead of Rison
Bane and veteran Josek Bomida. Fr Jude Forde, some 70 years young, put
in a sterling effort to out-sprint a similar aged Martin Maire and
finish in a good time of 24:13 for their age group. Time keepers
sensationally disqualified Henry Horou from taking line honours in the
6.7km slog up Paga Hill as his near record winning time of 26:54 could
not be justified as they suspected he did not run the full course.
First place was awarded to Emmanuel Gaudi in a time of 32:07. Gaudi has
recently turned his hand to playing Rugby League. In another battle of
the veterans, Simon Nutley, with inertia on his side, outsprinted Judge
David Cannings, to finish in tenth place in a time of 44:20. |
