Turtle catch… Max Tom (centre) from Mayama village in the Morobe Patrol Post LLG area and some local men in Lae displaying a 25kg turtle caught along the shores of his village yesterday morning. The turtle was among three Tom and his relatives caught in a fishing net in the early hours of yesterday. Two however, died in the struggle to free themselves from the net. Tom took the live one (pictured) to Lae to sell for meat and its hard shell.The turtle's hard shell is used by local craftsmen to make necklaces and earrings.
