Control students or else: Ed adviser
By FRANK RAI
MOROBE provincial Education authorities have pledged to get tough on teachers who do not control their students.

Provincial Education adviser Muruki Bihoro said “we will not tolerate fights amongst students”.
He was reacting to a news report yesterday over a fight among students from two separate primary schools in Lae last Friday afternoon at Eriku Shopping centre.
Mr Bihoro said that the Education office, since taking over the control of all secondary schools in the province last year, strict measures have been imposed to enforce discipline, including the change of management and administration of schools renowned for violence.
Mr Bihoro said the only strategy that could be used to address the issue is to warn the teachers to be in the classroom with the students and to monitor the students’ behaviours.
“We have informed the principals and their deputies to monitor the teachers so that they are always in the classrooms with their students.
“If the teachers want to stay – they have to pull their socks up and start performing,” Mr Bihoro said.
The deputy headmaster of the St Paul’s primary school Nelson Imanakon said yesterday that his students were not involved in the fight at Eriku.
His statement was corroborated by the guidance counsellor for Huonville primary school Newton Maneka.
The students involved in the fight were students from Buimo Road primary school.
“This (primary schools fighting) is a new trend and I think if this is true than we will address this situation with the same strategy,” Mr Bihoro said.
He said since the beginning of this year, schools have commenced quietly and he hoped this would be the case all year around.
