Port Moresby announces third men’s team

PORT Moresby selectors have announced a third men’s team in preparation for this weekend’s 31st national softball championships in Port Moresby.

The announcement followed PNG Softball Federation approval on the basis that there were 11 men’s teams confirmed that would have definitely created a bye during the tournament.
And given that the tournament will be in a pool system, a third team was necessary to even up the number of men’s teams whereby the 12 teams will be divided into two pools of six teams each.
PNG Softball Federation president Chris Bais said a third Port Moresby men’s team would solve a bye situation but stressed that the third team must be competitive.
This team which has been named from the full training squad will be known as Port Moresby yellows.
The three Port Moresby teams are:
Port Moresby Digicel Red: Danny Mong, Danny Tovia, David Maira, David Upaupa, Demas Totil Jr, Dick Bart Jr, Dimic Wosley, Elias Voivoi, George Pukur, Isikel Tovia Jr, Isimel Marnapal, Michael Parom, Paul Bogan, Paul Tabete, Tauna Willie and Eddie Simba. The coach is Isikel Tovia assisted by Peni Maita and the team manager is Jacob Taule.
Port Moresby Digicel White: Alister Tavol, Anthony Raphael, Consie Bais, Consie Lumaris, Daniel Kinakava, Demas Tovia, Gabriel Pamel, Joe Avuchulas Jr, John Bualten, Nelson Kiap, Ora Gimi, Philip Samuel, Saga Gimi, Sam Malum Jr, Siani Turlom, Tul Malisa and Chris Timi. The coach is Lawrence Pae assisted by Tony Daple and the team manager is Stanley Tavul.
Port Moresby Yellows: Apisai Guguna, Daniel Kaputin, David Mickey, Pasi Pialkolos, Peter Kaminiel, Sam Ulur, Samuel Ropa, Thomas Kuwoh, Tony Williams, Yaha Ahobe, Charlie Horis, Alvin Sabumei, Gela Geno, Harry Mathew, Patrick Pilak, Peter Urari and Tony Karani. The coach is Chris Raphael and the team manager is Nelson Simba.
The other centres that have confirmed sending men’s teams are Rabaul, Lae and Madang three teams each with Tabubil, Lihir and Kavieng one men’s team each.
While in the women’s competition Port Moresby, Lae and Madang will be fielding two teams each with Rabaul, Tabubil, Lihir and Kavieng to send one team each.
The National Gaming Control Board is the major sponsor of the national softball championships which pitches off on Friday March 21 and ends with the finals on Monday March 24.
