Remove provincial government is CP’s focus

THE PNG Country Party is focused on abolishing provincial governments as its election campaign agenda.
Interim party leader ambassador Kiatro Abasinito said this at the opening of the party’s office in front of Southern region candidates and more than 300 supporters at Boroko last Thursday.
The office space located was given out “rent free” to the party by Tangil Okuk, son of former leader Sir Iambakey Okuk.
Mr Abasinito said the party, when it gets into government, would abolish the provincial governments and establish a two-tier government, the National and local level governments by setting up major institutional, structural and administrative reforms.
“The new structure would hopefully enable assistance, advice and resources from the National Government to go to the LLGs that deals directly with the communities,” the ambassador said.
He said the second major policy would be to create a stable, healthier, informed and dedicated population to sustain improved living standards for the rural people.
He said the party also planned to explore market opportunities for agricultural produce and down-stream processing for all tree crops, natural and marine resources.
He said the party hoped to achieve economic independence by 2020 through radical economic reforms, structural changes, encourage industrial development and promote trade in order to stimulate economic growth and progressively reduce foreign aid.
Party founder Sir Sinake Giregire said the party would endorse 86 candidates for the coming elections.
He said the Papua region had confirmed 22 candidates, Momase (23), Islands (12) and it was still considering the Highlands region candidates.
