Franchise owner expects Lahanis to
perform well
By ZACHERY PER
THE new franchise owner of Goroka Lahanis, the Bintangor Trading,
will renew the lucrative sponsorship package depending on the
team’s performance this year.
Bintangor Trading managing director Simon Sia said in Goroka last
Friday that the performance rating of the team this year would
determine whether his company continues with its sponsorship next
year.
“It would all depend on the performance of players on the field,
however, the technical officials and management conduct would also
be taken into account,” he said.
Sia said the Bintangor Trading was doing something good to the
people of Eastern Highlands province by providing the much needed
K75,000 sponsorship deal for their provincial team.
“Bintangor is happy to be associated with Goroka Lahanis this year
in the SP Cup challenge, we agreed to be the major sponsor
following a request by Lahanis board chairman Terry Shelly,” Sia
said.
He challenged the team management to exercise transparency and
accountability in its financial management and reporting system
that could consequently get them to renew the sponsorship deal
next year.
Sia made the formal announcement of the sponsorship deal last
Wednesday morning in Goroka witnessed by Shelly and Lahanis team
manager Himony Lapiso and their executives.
Shelly and Lapiso said the SP Cup board and PNG Rugby Football
League (PNGRFL) required SP Cup teams to come up with K75,000 to
qualify to participate in the semi-professional rugby league
competition.
Goroka Lahanis’ former franchise owner Coca-Cola Amatail withdrew
as major sponsorship this year.
Bintangor Trading is also one of the minor sponsors of the
Kundiawa-based Pagini Warriors, that is expected to make a strong
come back this season.
The red, blue and white striped team would now run on to the
paddock under the banner of Bintangor Trading Lahanis.
