PNG does not need help from Australian police
I SUPPORT the letter by Daniel Kugam (March 11) on Internal Security Minister Sani Rambi’s proposal to request for officers from Australia to curb law and order problems in PNG.
That announcement is very disturbing especially when our own police force has done its utmost in recent times to improve its image, discipline and performance.
The RPNGC does not lack the capacity to increase its manpower and his comments during the state visit by the Australian prime minister must be viewed as a ‘statement of convenience’.
The performance of our policemen and women could even be better if the Government seriously look into improving and upgrading their accommodation and logistics, provide specialised training and other conditions.
The annual police recruitment drive in recent years is giving a positive boost to the number of police personnel in the country.
