People to be devt partners
By MADELEINE AREK
AHI Holdings chairman Benson Nablu is determined to see his people as equal partners in Lae city development.

As traditional landowners of the city, they should be actively involved in socio-economic activities that would give them an honest income instsead of becoming dependent on Government handouts, Mr Nablu said.
He said as chairman, it is his aim to build the capacity of his people, to position them strategically so that they are prepared for any major development projects coming to the province.
Mr Nablu was responding to allegations by Morobe Governor Luther Wenge over the commissioning of phase one of the Lae road rehabilitation programme to a joint venture by Ahi Holdings and Dekenai Construction.
Mr Wenge had termed the awarding of the contract as “unscrupulous”, and to a company lacking a “proven track record”.
Mr Nablu admitted that although the company lacks experience in civil works, it would not be a stumbling block to the arising opportunities.
“We may not have the experience, but we have the will power to take part in any development in the Lae,” he said.
Mr Nablu said Mr Wenge should be happy that a Morobean company is taking part in these developments.
“Nothing has come easy ... we have had sleepless nights negotiating this deal and we are proud of striking it with a company that has a lot to show for itself- Dekenai,” he said.
Mr Nablu said he was proud of their list of achievements.
