THE Papua New Guinea men’s softball team campaign towards the World Cup qualifier in Auckland, New Zealand, became a reality last night with the official announcement of a K20,000 sponsorship, courtesy of SP Brewery.

The sponsorship is by far the biggest that Softball PNG has received to date from the country’s sole beer maker.
According to softball administrators yesterday, such funding would lift the hopes of softball players towards the team’s chances of qualifying for the Softball World Cup.
The money was given to PNG Softball Federation at the Brewery’s Brewkettle functions room in Port Moresby President last night.
PNG Softball Federation president Chris Bais said he was delighted to accept the sponsorship, adding that the sponsorship marks a new chapter in the relationship between PNG Softball and SP Brewery.
“SP Brewery has been synonymous with sport and over the year’s softball has been a benefactor of this support nationally and for the teams traveling overseas,” Bais said
“We want to thank SP Brewery for making this trip a reality in such a short notice.”
SP Brewery general manger Stan Joyce reassured the softball fraternity of the company’s continued support to the code in the years to come, describing softball as “a quite achiever”.
“SP brewery is proud of its relationship with Softball PNG as we know they are the champion team in the South Pacific and they have proven that over and over again,” Joyce said.
The announcement also comes days before the annual national softball championship this weekend from which the PNG men’s team will be finalised
The PNG men’s team will travel to the World Cup qualifier in Auckland next month.
