Our swim team bank on BSP for NZ meet
By HENRY MORABANG
BANK South Pacific yesterday donated K20,000 to Team Swimming to help them attend the Oceania championships in Christchurch in New Zealand in June.

The Christchurch championship is the last qualifying competition leading up to the 2008 Olympic Games Games in Beijing, China.
PNG Swimming Union executives Elizabeth Wells and Bruce Mead were on hand to receive the cheque from BSP executive managing director Garth McIlwain at BSP head office in Port Moresby.
Wells acknowledged with sincere appreciation the continued support received from BSP as a major sponsor of the Papua New Guinea Swimming Inc and its elite target squad athletes for the past six years.
ìWhen you came on board sponsoring the swim team to the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester we saw a group of young rising stars which included Ryan Pini and Anna Lisa Mopio-Jane and Ben Wells take to the blocks wearing the black red and gold bathers, a little nervous but exhilarated to be there.
ìSince then your sponsorship has allowed them and others to experience the best of competition by competing in Commonwealth Games, South Pacific Games, FINA World Championships through to the most prestigious of all the Olympic Games,î she said
Wells said the members of the PNG swimming team are proud and honoured to be associated with BSP known for its excellence in human development.
ìWe thank you Garth McIlwain and your executive for providing a sponsorship of K20,000 annually to allow our athletes to continue to improve, excel and develop into great personalities and sports men and women,î she said.
Wells said the bankís continued support had enabled Team Swimmingís development and target squad athletes to experience international competition at its best, further developing them into elite, competitive athletes who are good ambassadors, representing and carrying the BSP logo with dignity and pride.
