Power supply increases

PNG Power has installed a new 1.4 megawatt generator at the Alotau power station to cater for the increasing supply demand in the township.
Another 1.4MW will be installed later this month and is scheduled to be commissioned early next month.
The connections of these two new generators will increase the generation capacity by 70% – from 3.5MW to 6MW.
The power demand in Alotau has increased due to the development projects such as the KB development (stage one and two) Kwato Mission project, Ravens Estate development (near completion), Toudukwa Block project, New town in Rabe/Nawae and the Mandarin Fishing Company.
Some of these projects have been completed while some have just begun.
PNG Power is also carrying out rural electrification projects funded by the Milne Bay provincial government from Alotau to Hagita High School.
The extension project from this will benefit 17 communities living along the route.
