Work on treasury office begins

CONSTRUCTION work has started on the district treasury office in the remote Kagua-Erave district of Southern Highlands province.
The district treasury building will be housing nine staff members, a district treasurer, cash office, bank, EFTPOS, six telephone lines and Post Office.
A KVA 90 generator will also be installed to supply power for the treasury office and the district.
The ground breaking was done by local MP and Minister for Higher Education, Science, Research and Technology David Basua, Labour and Industrial Relations Minister Mathew Siune and Finance Secretary Gabriel Yer who were received by thousands of people and school children.
Mr Yer said with the district treasury roll-out programme, public servants and people in rural areas did not need to travel to main centres to do their banking, postal and telephone services.
He said the Department of Finance through the programme would invest K2.6 million in the project in Kagua-Erave alone.
