Pomio MP helps fight crime in ENB

EAST New Britain provincial police commander Supt Allan Kundi was impressed with the donation from Pomio MP Paul Tiensten to help tackle law and order problems in the district.
Mr Kundi yesterday received K25,000 from Mr Tiensten, who is also the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Mr Tiensten has allocated K100,000 to the police to carry out awareness programmes in the area which would be done on a quarterly basis.
Mr Kundi said Pomio was one of the districts in the province which had high number of serious cases like illegal drug dealing, selling of ammunition, homebrew, murder and other serious cases.
He said police were unable to attend to the area due to isolation, lack of funds and communication difficulties.
Currently, only one police officer is based in district.
Mr Kundi said because Pomio was sharing border with West New Britain, there were many illegal activities taking place out there.
Mr Kundi appreciated the assistance and said police would immediately kick start the programme.
The awareness programme would comprise 12 police officers led by officer- in-charge of community policing, Insp Michael Periwanga said.
Mr Periwanga would be coordinating the two-week awareness programme.
Mr Kundi said it was a timely need with the election approaching and would use the funds to do awareness on law and order, and follow-up arrests on serious cases.
