Applicants sit for pre-test

THE National Capital District elementary education division conducted a pre-test for shortlisted applicants who applied to be elementary school teachers last Friday.
The pre-test, conducted at the PNG Education Institute lecture theatre, was supervised by elementary education division officials for National Capital District.
NCD provincial elementary teachers training coordinator Kiri Varika said due to huge interest shown by more than 300 applicants alone for only 32 spaces, it had prompted the elementary education division to sit applicants for test to give everyone a fair go and choose the best possible candidates for training.
Mr Varika said it was the second time for them to conduct tests in NCD because a lot of secondary school leavers were showing interest in gaining training to obtain certificate of elementary teaching.
It was interesting to see a lot more applications for limited spaces and was giving everyone an opportunity to get selected.
Meanwhile, national coordinator for Teachers Education Staff Development with the Education Department Theresia Hamadi said there was not much interest shown in other provinces for those intending to be elementary teachers.
She said traditionally a teacher was chosen by the community based on merit and recommended to the provincial education board to approve for them to gain training to be elementary teachers.
