Aranamo shines

ARANAMO BBK started their volleyball campaign with a double victory over glamour team U-Mi Yet over the weekend.
It started off with a K4,000-plus sponsorship during the week from Mrs Kila Vele (wife of Governor Wari Vele) to the team including uniforms, affiliation and player registration fees.
The sponsor moral brought the players to perform to expectations over their much experienced opponents. In the men, skipper Kala Rawali led side comprising of international Gerea Kila, Veupu Kila, Greg Renagi, Jason Vela, Manly Kapa, Iga Mula’a, Marissa Tarzan and Morea Sina cause the upset of the day when they came from behind to win 2 sets to 1.
It was not easy coming from the start as last season runners up U-Mi Yet with inform Boniface Irisia, Loi Taunao, Norman Sere,Henry Aika, Charlie Gabina and Tuvi Kapa showed form in the first set winning 25-15 and look all set for the second set but Aranamo regrouped and came out with Kila brothers firing from all corners with Morea Sina and Jason Vela assisting, it led the way from good setting of Mula’a and Tarzan and won the set 25-17 and continued the momentum in the third set 25-19 and a well deserved victory.
In the women’s, it was Aranamo again who turned the heat over U-Mi Yet in a two-nil win.
Led by Kalia Renagi and assisted by Clara Kila, Pate Gima, Iva Jimmy, Nancy and Pala Alu, the ladies were on fire in their play with good cover defence that pave way for victory. U-Mi Yet, with a well balanced side of Genamo Kila, Kila Gerea, Patricia Gima, Tiffany Haoda, Geno Guma and Vanuga Ani showed glimpse of their form but succumbed to their opponents.
In other matches, Peteru defeated NFA 2-0, Scorpions edged out Marawaone 2-1, Magpies ousted Ulamagi 2-0, Hoppers too strong for KIJO and PNG Ports held Viriolo at bay 2-1.
In the men’s, Marawaone ousted NFA 2-1, Magpies knocked out Pom Tech 2-0, Scorpions hammered Viriolo 2-0, Hoppers nailed Vailima 2-1, Ulamagi were too strong for Kijo 2-0 and PNG Ports defeated Kisere 2-1.
Meanwhile, president Geac Kahata said that by this weekend, only registered clubs will take part in the pre-season. Those that did not pay their preseason K50 fee will miss out on the draws.
The Association also welcomed another new club to the competition Bulldozers formerly known as Black Arrows from well known Vabukori village. Bulldozers showcase their stuff this weekend.
