Auction nets record for games
By WENDY KATUSELE
THE annual Trukai Fun Run auction held last Thursday in Port
Moresby alone netted a new record of sale of K375,250 to assist
our 500 athletes to the Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa in August.
This was K163,300 more than last year's amount of K211, 950.
Papua New Guinea Sports Federation secretary Sir John Dawanincura
earlier was anticipating a target of K100,000 and that was
fulfilled during auction night thanks to loyal corporate sponsors.
A total of 37,525 'T' shirts was sold that night compared to last
year's figure of 21,195.
A delighted Sir John said that the gesture shown by corporate
sponsors at the bidding proved their support to see our 500
athletes participate at coming Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa in
August.
"This amount has surpassed all records and I am just grateful,"
Sir John said after the auction.
A total of K5 million is needed to send a contingent of 500
athletes to the games.
Major sponsor Trukai's marketing manager David Burns also was a
happy man and said it was a fantastic record and especially to
send the athletes to the games.
"For a worthy cause, it is a fantastic money," he said.
Each company had to bid for various schools and institutions
within Port Moresby and outside city perimeters with T-shirts to
be printed with their logos and sold by the respective schools to
help out with their school projects.
From the total of 37,525 T-shirts auctioned saw Steamships
Hardware topping the bidding list with 4,950 T-shirts purchased
for seven schools and institutions within NCD and Central
province.

schools with total of 3,200 while Steel Industries purchased 2,600
and SVS 2,505.

bidder Consort with 1,500 T-shirts and Riback Stevedores with 950
T-shirts.
