Jeffrey Morofa, a Crocodile legend falls in the final tackle

CROCODILE legends are not only confined to the people of Gulf origin playing for the Gulf (later Wests) rugby league club of Port Moresby but from most other provinces and abroad.
There were significant contributions from Central province, Islands, Bougainville, Fiji and Highlanders.
Among the latter were two brothers Jeffrey and Joe Morofa from Watabung in the Daulo of Eastern Highlands province.
Jeffrey the older brother, left school in 1974 and came to Port Moresby in 1975 and had never been back home. Between 1975 and 1986, he was a regular face in the Gulf junior grade and later Wests senior grade fixtures.
Patrons familiar with their prowess on the field will no doubt attest to their contributions to the West rugby league club and indeed the rugby league fraternity between 1975 and 1986.
After 40 years, Jeffrey returns home on Thursday for the first time - tragically in a coffin.
He collapsed and died on March 3 at his home at Hohola 5 from what relatives believe was a heart attack. He was 50.
Many will remember him for his prowess at half back for the Gulf and later West rugby league club junior and senior Grade sides.
An entertaining footballer, Jeffrey represented Southern Zone juniors and seniors on several occasions. He never made the Kumuls but many of his fans believe, he was one of the most underrated players of his era.
