Forging ties with France

By AUGUSTINE NEMA, UPNG Public Relations
THE University of Papua New Guinea is reinforcing its ties with France through initiatives aimed at expanding opportunities for staff and students.
Vice Chancellor Professor Ross Hynes recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a famous art university in France, called the Ecole Nationale Supérieur d'Art de Paris-Cergy.
The MOU was signed in Paris by the Director of the French university René Denizot, and was delivered to the Vice Chancellor for his signing by France Ambassador to PNG H.E. Patrick Boursin.
The MOU seeks to forge a partnership through an exchange program for staff and students between the UPNG's Melanesia Institute of Art & Communication (MIAC) and the French university.
Further discussions during the signing explored possibilities of developing partnerships between UPNG and other universities in France as well as French speaking universities in the Pacific region, in New Caledonia and Tahiti.
Another MOU will be signed this week to effect the establishment of a France Study Centre to facilitate the French course currently taught at UPNG.
The centre will include a classroom and a library and is expected to be set up within the premise of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The centre is an initiative of UPNG and the Alliance francaise de Port Moresby.
