| Appointment of Lelang is a good one | |
|
I CONGRATULATE the National Executive
Council for making the right decision to appoint a new secretary to the
Department of National Planning and Rural Development. We need a very good chief planner and think tank to help move the country forward. Joseph Lelang is a good choice as he has a wealth of experience and is knowledgeable in developmental issues. Over the past seven years, there have been a lot of wastage and embarrassment for the country and Government. There was no growth in the agriculture and fisheries sectors, no improvement in health, education, law and justice, transport infrastructure and so on despite millions and millions of kina allocated to them. How was the money used? One has only to conduct a thorough investigation to reveal the corruption in the department which is probably worse than in the Finance Department. I have worked under four different secretaries and I have to say that Valentine Kambori’s performance was shocking and a disgrace. He spent most of his time travelling. The fact that he was a very good orator probably helped him. With the help of our development partners, donors, churches, non-governmental organisations and others, this country would not have come this far. Development specialist, Port Moresby |
