Sinato joins salary renumeration team

THE Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG) now will have two representatives in the National Salary Remuneration Committee.
Former Bougainville provincial premier and current health minister Gerard Sinato was sworn-in at a ceremony by the Governor-General Sir Paulias Matane at the Government House at Konedobu yesterday where he will join ABG chief administrator Peter Tsiamalili already representing the Bougainville government in the committee.
Mr Sinato said he was pleased with Mr Tsiamalili’s push for salaries and entitlements for ABG politicians and public servants with the committee which was reviewed by a consultant firm to suit the best appropriate balance for everyone.
“I am pleased to be a member of this important committee and I would do my best to serve the government, the public servants and the people of Autonomous region of Bougainville,” he said.
Mr Tsiamalili, who witnessed at the ceremony, told The National the small rise in salaries and entitlements would be met by the already budgeted K1.8 million and revenues raised internally.
He said it was a small but significant move towards gaining confidence in self-reliance as to prove the Autonomous region of Bougainville was moving towards self-sustainability.
“Right now, we are working on steps to create ABG’s own salary remuneration committee but the national body is taking care of all salaries and entitlements,” Mr Tsiamalili said.
Mr Sinato, a career politician from Kuna, west coast of Bougainville, will serve five years in the committee.
